Room 2: Marsha

Room 2 is inspired by trailblazing LGBT+ activist, Marsha P. Johnson. This room is a tribute to Marsha’s unwavering pursuit of authenticity and her pivotal role in the Stonewall uprising.

Features:

  • 1x Super King Size Bed (180cm wide)
  • Ensuite Bathroom with Hot-water Shower
  • Desk (W70 x L120 x H72 cm)
  • Large, freestanding wardrobe/closet
  • Ceiling fan
  • AC

Hung prominently above the bed is a Khmer kroma—a traditional Cambodian garment—that’s been made in rainbow colors. The room is also embellished with touches of gold in honor of Marsha’s love of sparkles.

Strangly, this room’s window shutters don’t open (thanks to some out-of-the-box architecture), so this room doesn’t have a view. However, this is reminiscent of gay bars having blacked out windows so people couldn’t see in—in many places during this time, being gay was against the law as well as being taboo. Between some iconic images of Marsha, there’s some 3D floral art bursting from its canvas because like Frida Khalo, Marsha P.—Pay It No Mind—Johnson was a big fan of a fabulous floral headpiece!
